The Wales e-Training Network

This was a £1m European funded project that involved a wide range of HE and FE institutions in Wales collaborating in the development and delivery of on-line distance learning courses for SMEs.

The project, managed by Prof Tony Toole, saw over 20 institutions contributing modules to an on-line Foundation Degree in e-Commerce, The project concluded in March 2008.

The EU Guide to Regional Good Practice

A new European funded project is due to begin in January 2010 aiming to develop training materials for institutional staff in the use of Web 2.0 tools in support of learning. The 5 nation project, led by Germany, will be represented for the UK by Coleg Sir Gar and Prof Tony Toole will be project manager.

This month has seen the completion of a project commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government for a new funding model for Open, Distance, Drop-in and e-Learning for the post-16 sector in Wales. A major report has been produced following 7 months of research and consultation with key stakeholders. View the website here.

A new JISC funded project was launched on 1st May 2009 managed by e-College.ac. The Ratatat project is based at Swansea Metropolitan University and addresses a key challenge facing educational delivery by online distance learning. The challenge is to provide access to high quality practical work in addition to knowledge based learning. The project will research and develop solutions using remote desktop access to laboratory experiments carried out by MSc students. The project website can be seen here.

 

The EU Regional Guide to Good Practice in e-Learning was authored by Prof Tony Toole and published by the Commission in September 2007.

It arose from the work of 28 regional e-learning experts contributing examples of good practice from across Europe. The Guide contains 12 Case Studies covering 5 different e-Learning themes of Good Practice.

VirtualCollege.ac.uk

Prof Tony Toole set up the  VirtualCollege.ac.uk Managed Learning Environment in 1998 for the development and delivery of FE on-line distance learning courses.

Since that time, thousands of students who were unable to attend college courses, have gained qualifications through study at home or at work.
